Using Out-of-Network Benefits

I am not accepting new clients through insurance panels. Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of the cost of care from an out-of-network psychologist. On request, I provide a monthly superbill containing everything your insurer requires for reimbursement. Whether and how much you are reimbursed is determined by your plan, not by this practice.

If you want to check your benefits before we begin, these are the questions worth asking your insurer:

  • Does my plan include out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits?
  • What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much of it have I met?
  • What percentage of the allowed amount does my plan reimburse for CPT code 90837?
  • Is preauthorization required?

Why I Practice This Way

Working outside insurance networks means the course of your treatment is determined by clinical judgment rather than by what a utilization reviewer will authorize. It also means no diagnosis, treatment record, or claim is submitted to an insurance company on your behalf. For many of the people I work with — particularly those in professions where discretion carries real weight — that difference matters.

It also lets me keep a small caseload, which is the reason I can offer the kind of attention this work requires.

Good Faith Estimate

Under the No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care. I provide one to every client at the outset of treatment and will provide one on request before scheduling.

Cancellation

Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are billed at the full fee. Your appointment time is reserved for you, and I do not fill it on short notice.
